This drink was a serendipitous invention. I was making whiskey sours for a friend and myself. After making the first one I realized that I had run out of simple syrup. I didn't panic but looked in the pantry for something that could substitute. I tried the maple syrup and the result was spectacular. I decided to be a good host and let my friend choose which she would like to drink. I was dismayed when she chose the maple version. But the secret was out and through some subtle revisions including the addition of the single drop of bitters I have arrived at a recipe I am quite proud of.
